When I think of family traditions, I'm immediately transported back to special moments or meals I celebrated growing up with two cultural backgrounds. Even now, when my dad comes to visit, it has become almost a ritual that he make 'Fabada Asturiana' (which, for lack of a better description, is a hearty bean stew or soup that in ingrained in my DNA). And on Christmas Eve we always -- ALWAYS -- go to mass and then linger over a fondue dinner. As I embrace these traditions and pass them down to my children, my husband and I have also begun new traditions together, which is what families should do. Be it music, holidays, outings, meals or something else that holds special meaning to us, the idea is that we are create in our children an anticipation of the familiar -- something to look forward to each year.
