Parenting Wine Pairing: Cabernet Franc’ly I Don’t Give a Damn

You know that moment when you’re done? I mean, REALLY done?

Just. SO. Motherf***ing. Done?

"I'm just a mom, sitting in front of her wine, fighting the urge to chug it."

I hit that moment about two glasses of cab franc ago.

The funny thing is, I wasn’t particularly tired. I ate (fairly) well. Did my workout and got in my 10,000 steps. By all accounts I should have been positively giddy with positive energy.

Not so.

So incredibly the opposite of “so” that I herded the kids to bed at 8:30 — the teen close behind. We’ll just call it “back-to-school prep”. This is hilariously ironic since we are leaving to spend a couple of days in cottage country, a place where bedtime is merely a suggestion.

But, like I said: Done. And it’s not even a full moon!

Whine Wine Pairing of the Day: Sibling Rivalry ’16 Red

Sibling Rivalry from Henry of Pelham; a red wine from the Niagara Peninsula.

So, now I’m sitting here, nursing a glass of wine, aptly named Sibling Rivalry, in light of this evening’s shenanigans. And I thought, wouldn’t it be brilliant to have wine pairings that match the end-of-the-day mood?

Thus, today’s wine selection is a merlot/cabernet franc/cabernet sauvignon blend hailing from the Niagara Peninsula region. (Bonus points for being a Product of Canada.) This is a drinking wine, not particularly heavy or full-bodied, but rather one which pairs nicely with a pasta dinner and a side of, “Brush your teeth and get to bed!” on repeat.

Put that on the label.

And if you’ve worked up an appetite after yelling, “Why am I still tripping on clean laundry?” for the dozenth time, some lightly salted vegetable chips perfectly complement the salty language you may have uttered under your breath with the “lush berry flavours” of this young red. (Kudos to you if you actually picked up that fruity nuance.)

All that’s missing now is to cue up the latest episode of Big Brother, sit back, take a big sip and relax.
